Is Getflix Safe?

Getflix VPN was created in 2013 by a company known as Global Stealth Inc. The company has two offices in Poland and Seychelles. Getflix is mainly a Smart DNS provider but also provides VPN services on some of its servers. It is not a good option for beginners because most of its platforms, including Windows, require manual setup.

Getflix might sound synonymous with Netflix but the online movie streaming company has over the years tried to block Getflix on many occasions. The good news is that Getflix always finds a way to walk around Netflix blocks.

So, is Getflix safe for anonymous Internet browsing? Read on to learn more about this VPN from the smart DNS provider and find out if it is a safer option compared to other VPN services available today.

Encryption and Protocols

The Getflix VPN encrypts your traffic using the standard OpenVPN UDP, PPTP, SSTP, and L2TP connection protocols. You should always use the OpenVPN protocol but you can also choose other options if your Internet service provider throttles or blocks some protocols. However, remember that OpenVPN is considered as the most secure protocol nowadays.

The official Getflix website states that the VPN provides 2048-bit encryption which is likely the size of its RSA key. They also use AES-256 encryption cipher, which is the best encryption option available today.

Kill Switch

Getflix VPN has a reliable kill switch feature that effectively terminates your Internet connection when the VPN drops or is compromised by whatever reason. This helps to keep your IP safe from getting exposed when the VPN connection drops.

Privacy and Logging

Getflix states that the VPN service collects data from its users including the following:

  • Your name, email address, credit card details, and mailing address
  • Other non-personal data such as your computer, browser, operating system, and ISP.

The VPN provider also places cookies on your computer to track user activity. You can block the cookies but you will not be able to use some of the VPN functionalities. The company, however, states that it has measures to protect all the data they collect from unauthorized access and that they never rent or sell user data to third parties. It is important to note from the start that Getflix is not a zero-log VPN.

Jurisdiction

Getflix has a safer location for VPN services because Seychelles is not a member of the 14-Eyes Alliance. The company is therefore not obligated to provide user data to the 14-Eyes authorities, even if the information is requested by a court order or subpoena.

Streaming and Torrenting

Getflix is designed to unblock some of the most popular streaming platforms from any location. You can stream content from more than 300 services including Netflix US, Hulu, Amazon Prime, BBC iPlayer, HBO, Showtime, and many more. They have a full list of all the channels you can stream listed on their official website.

Getflix allows torrenting and P2P but cautions users against downloading copyrighted content. The company, however, doesn’t monitor P2P file-sharing and will hardly know what type of content you are downloading.

Secure Alternatives to Getflix

Getflix doesn’t monitor your activities but still collects identifiable data if you choose to provide the information in order to access extra functions of their VPN. This does not make them safe to use.
